Adopt an orangutan or give the gift of an adoption!

Taking care of an orangutan costs at least 50.00€ per month, or 600.00€ per year. Adopting an orangutan, although costing much less than that, goes a long way to covering these costs.

All money donated will be spent on projects in the orangutan care centre.

All foster parents receive a certificate with information about their adoptee and a photograph, plus yearly reports on his or her development and well-being.

AAndi mit Pflegerinndi

Andi was brought to the sanctuary in March 2006 at about two years of age. A policeman had found him in a palm oil plantation.

Good news!

Andi has been successfully released into the wild!

Of course he wasn't released on his own - he would be too young for that -  but together with Sawit, an adult female orangutan who adopted him in  the Care Centre. So now he's enjoying his new life of freedom. Our  heartfelt thanks go to Andi's foster parents for their support!

Golong

Golong was brought to the Care Centre in April 2008 by workers of a palm oil plantation who claimed not to know what had happened to his mother. He was about 18 months old then and had been held in captivity for about three months. As you can see, Golong is a little shy, but has nevertheless adapted well into the baby group.

Lia

Lia was only about six months old when she arrived at the sanctuary in September 2008. Before then she had lived for about four months in captivity and it's a miracle she survived. Because of her young age Lia needs special care and apparently feels very comfortable with her human foster mothers.

Kongo

Kongo arrived at the sanctuary in May 2004 at about the age of four after being confiscated by the Forestry Ministry in Western Borneo. At the time he was in a very bad state, had a fever, and was in need of medical care. Since then he has grown and has become very lively. He is intelligent and playful and has become an adolescent who sometimes gets into mischief with the other orangutans. But he is still nice and lovable.

Cabang

Cabang was given to Biruté Galdikas in October 2002 by a fisherman with whom she had lived for three months. At the time she was about a year old. Nothing is known about her mother. Cabang is very curious and playful, but also very careful. She enjoys the regular trips to the jungle and climbing the trees. In addition she is very affectionate and always wants to be cuddled.

Montana

Montana has been living in the sanctuary since April 1996. His mother was shot and eaten. On his arrival he was frightened and traumatized. Bullets were found in his body and it is thought that he was wounded when his mother was killed. He probably also fell with her from a tree, because the right side of his body was crippled and partly paralyzed. Additionally he is blind in the left eye. Since arriving he has grown large and strong and has developed cheek pads. He doesn’t get on well with other males but he’s a very gentle orangutan who, because of his strength, unfortunately can’t be let out of his enclosure. A reintroduction into the forest would only be possible in an area away from other males, perhaps on an island, but such a place has yet to be found …

Patricia

Patricia was born around 2002. She was brought to the Care Centre by her "owner“ because she was often ill and wasn't eating properly. She arrived in a deplorable state; she had wounds around her neck caused by a chain. Fortunately she is now doing much better, but her weight is still not what it should be because unfortunately Patricia seems to be a very picky eater ...

Boncel

Boncel came to the sanctuary in 1999 at about the age of three, very week and suffering from diarrhea. He had been found lying in a cage close to a road for over two weeks and had also been a young girl’s pet in a private household. Since then Boncel has developed into an adolescent and gets on very well with other orangutans. Unfortunately he can longer be allowed to participate in the jungle trips because, when he does, he often wanders into private households and gardens and sometimes would then return with a chicken.

Diva

Diva was already about four years old when she was brought to the sanctuary in March 2005. She was found alone in the forest. Nothing is known about her mother. She is still somewhat wild and during her regular trips to the jungle she prefers to be away from the others while looking for food and building nests. It is often difficult to get her to return to the sanctuary.

Saddam

Saddam was confiscated when he was about two years old by the Forestry Ministry in April 2008 in Palangkaraya. Although he has adapted well to the sanctuary, he does not eat enough to gain weight. He therefore receives special care and food – and we keep our fingers crossed!

Alfred

Alfred was confiscated from a private household by the police in November 2008, after being kept as a pet for a week. He was only three months old at the time. Since then he has settled in well with the baby group and very much enjoys playing with his companions.
